What To Do If You Have Dry Skin and Acne

Managing both dry skin and acne can be tricky since many acne treatments can further dry out your skin. Here’s what you can do:
1. Use a Gentle, Hydrating Cleanser.
Avoid harsh, foaming cleansers that strip your skin.
Look for a sulfate-free, non-comedogenic, and hydrating cleanser (e.g., cream or gel-based).
2. Moisturize Regularly.
Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer (e.g., gel-based or one with ceramides and hyaluronic acid).
Avoid heavy, pore-clogging creams but ensure your skin stays hydrated.
3. Choose Acne Treatments Wisely.
Avoid harsh ingredients like benzoyl peroxide (or use a low concentration with added hydration).
Opt for niacinamide (calms inflammation) or azelaic acid (gentle and effective for acne).
If using retinoids, start with a low-strength and always follow up with moisturizer.
4. Avoid Over-Exfoliating.
Skip physical scrubs that can irritate dry skin.
If using chemical exfoliants (AHAs/BHAs), limit them to 1-2 times a week and follow with a good moisturizer.
5. Use a Hydrating Sunscreen.
Sun exposure can make dryness and acne worse.
Look for a non-comedogenic, hydrating sunscreen (SPF 30+).
6. Stay Hydrated & Watch Your Diet.
Drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in omega-3s and antioxidants.
Limit dairy and high-glycemic foods, which can trigger acne.
