Why signing Harry Kane is not only a pipe dream for Manchester United

While it won’t be easy for sure, Manchester United might stand a genuine chance at landing Harry Kane next summer.
The 31-year-old spent the bulk of his career at Tottenham Hotspur before finally sealing a transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 worth €95 million. The England captain has been absolutely deadly this season, scoring 29 goals and producing 10 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.
But according to Calciomercato.it, the Bavarian giants could decide to offload him next summer in order to cut their costs. As the source explains, Kane is running on a lucrative deal valid until 2027 which sees him collect a salary of €25 million per season, excluding bonuses.
Hence selling the striker in the summer would save Bayern at least €50 million, which would open up large room on the wage for potential new arrivals.
So if the first reason to offload Kane is economic, the second is technical. As the Italian report tells it, Kane was initially signed to appease Thomas Tuchel, who has already left the club last summer before accepting the England job. So while Vincent Kompany has been happy with the player’s performances, he won’t necessarily stand in the way of his departure.
Man Utd have a chance to land Harry Kane next summer

This could be music to the ears of Man Utd who are interested in signing the Spurs legend, reveals Todofichajes. As the Spanish portal explains, INEOS have identified Kane as the ideal profile to build their attack around due to his valuable experience and almost guaranteed goals. He would certainly be an upgrade over the struggling Rasmus Hojlund.
Moreover, this report adds a third factor that could play into United’s hands, claiming that Kane’s release clause will drop to £54 million in the summer.
While it remains to be seen if the stars will line up for Man Utd and Kane, we can expect the management to simultaneously track alternative profiles, including Napoli-owned bomber Victor Osimhen.
