Woman Orders Dog to Attack Neighbor in US

Police in North Carolina have confirmed the death of a pit bull that mauled a man after its owner ordered the attack.

The shocking incident took place in Wake County and left the victim with serious injuries.

According to court documents, 58-year-old Sheila Marie Hunter directed her pit bull to attack her neighbor, Eli Santos Blanco, during a heated argument outside their apartment complex.

The dog obeyed and sank its teeth into Blanco’s arms.

Blanco, who spoke with WNCN, described the terrifying moment. “It’s a hard pain to explain. At first, it was just okay, then she was ripping my tendons and muscles apart,” he said.

He recalled striking the dog repeatedly to break free but the animal refused to let go.

Help came from a bystander carrying a firearm. The man shot the pit bull dead in the middle of the attack, saving Blanco from further harm.

“At that moment, a man with a gun shot the dog dead,” Blanco recounted. He admitted the quick intervention might have saved his life.

Court records show Hunter has a criminal record spanning four decades. Police said she offered no help to the dying dog and instead hurled insults at officers who responded to the scene.

She now faces multiple charges, including assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, cruelty to animals, and intoxicated and disruptive behavior.

Hunter appeared in court on Monday via video link. A Wake County judge set her bail at $30,000.

If she posts bond, she will be banned from owning any animals and from contacting Blanco.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 6.

The incident adds to growing concerns about violent dog attacks worldwide. On August 19, 2025, in Chennai, India, a man named Karunakaran died after a neighbor’s pit bull mauled him.

In July 2025, a baby in Fargo, North Dakota, was killed by a pit bull. In Lagos, Nigeria, in November 2024, three pit bulls fatally attacked a security guard in a private estate.

These attacks have fueled debates over dangerous dog breeds, owner responsibility, and the need for stricter regulations.

Animal rights groups argue that pit bulls are not inherently violent but require proper training and responsible ownership. Others insist governments must ban aggressive breeds to protect the public.

For Blanco, however, the matter is personal.

His arms remain heavily bandaged, and he faces a long recovery. “I just thank God someone was there to stop it before it got worse,” he said.
